Get To Know: Da Crafty Lilninja

Justine Durrant

If you are a polymer clay fan then you need to check out da crafty lilninja. Lianne is a talented clay artist from Hawaii (how cool!) She creates the cutest creations using clay.

A word from the Designer:

My name is Lianne Hirano, and I am born and raised on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. I'm a stay at home mommy to a 2 and a half year old and a 9 month old, a musician, and a self taught polymer clay artist.

I've always been an artsy/ crafty person, and I've dabbled in all sorts of arts and crafts growing up. I also like to draw, paint, scrapbook, and more. Polymer clay was one of those crafts that I would bring out once a year, make a couple pieces, then I'd put it away for another year. I finally got serious about polymer clay in the summer of 2014.

When I first started clay, the most I could do was follow tutorials and copy popular pieces, like Tsum tsums. This really helped shape what my style is now. Also, after I opened my Etsy shop I took on as many custom orders as I could. This included a lot of custom dogs and popular characters. It was a great learning phase for me because a lot of my customers had the best ideas that
I would never think of myself! I'm so grateful so many customers trusted me with recreating their dog or special gift.

I'm constantly inspired by art and other amazing crafter's in our crafting community on Instagram. I also love watching polymer clay YouTube videos. It's so amazing that I get to appreciate amazing work and meet artists from all over the world! Now that I have some "signature" styles and I have the opportunity to explore new techniques and pieces, I feel like I'm constantly trying to create more challenging pieces. It's been an amazing adventure!
