DIY Doodling Mug

Caroline Lau

Over time, I have seen a lot of people pin an idea using an oil based sharpie to decorate mugs. In theory it sounds good IF you only hand wash mugs. So I did take this mug originally and drew owls all over it with a sharpie but I put it to my family test - we would wash it in the dishwasher which was our every day ritual.

After about 5 washes, sadly the owls were gone. I was left with a ceramic white mug again.

A couple of months ago I decided to give it a go again. This time I got a specific made for ceramic marker.

The dishwasher had left me with a clean mug. So over the course of a day, I started doodling:

Whenever I would take a break from work and stretch, I doodled some more til I came up with this:

And when I was satisfied, I gave it the 24 hours listed on the pen package and I baked it for 45 minutes at 375. My mug turned out awesome!

I am in the process of testing it out in our dishwasher. We had our first wash today and it came out the same as how it went in! I will report back if it changes!
