Baked Wonton Fish

Deborah Liu | Mommy School

Our kids love crispy wontons, but I don't like to fry at home. So my sister and devised a healthier version for a winter night.  This recipe only takes 10 minutes and has only 3 ingredients.  Even our 4 year-old was able to do this herself.

Ingredients

  • 1 package of wonton wrappers
  • 1 lb of brie cheese
  • Olive oil

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Lay out the wonton wrappers on a plate to make it easier for the kids.  It is best to have one of them carefully separate the sheets ahead of the wrapping.

Cut off the rind of the cheese, and then cut the cheese into individual blocks about 1/2" by 1/2".

Place the cheese in the middle of the wonton wrapper.  Then lift the edges together at the top and twist.  Pinch a bit in the center to ensure it does not loosen.

They should come out resembling little fish.  Have the kids place the wonton on their sides on a well-oiled baking dish.  Spray some olive oil liberally over the wonton fish, and place the dish into the oven for 20 minutes.  Take out, allow to cool, and enjoy!  It is great by itself or with a fruit (e.g. mango or pineapple) chutney.

Alternatives

  • If you cannot find brie, cream cheese also works.  Any soft cheese with a mild flavor can work.
  • Try a small piece of chocolate candy.  We tried a small piece of chocolate caramel, and it came out great.
