Hanging Sewing Box Decor

Jess Mutty | Maya Road

This project perfectly combines both of my crafty loves: paper crafts and sewing! As an avid sewist, on top of being a scrapbook designer, I have a room stuffed full of paper, embellishments, fabric and thread. Don't ask me to choose one!

I painted a serendipitously sized wood embellishment box with acrylic paint and attached a corrugate tag to the back for hanging it from the Ikea frame.

I barely fit that apropos quote in there but it was essential... my soul IS fed by needle and thread! Each box got a little set of sewing related embellishments.  Those tiny spools were actually fun to wind!

Just under the quote is a linen pennant with a couple of Maya Road pearl stick pins and a sweet little acrylic mason jar.  And next to that?  My favorite piece: the teeny tiny wood embroidery hoop that I backed in muslin and then actually stitched a heart!

I glued a wood ruler divider above the last two squares.  The left side has a tiny stack of coordinating fabric and the right has an assortment of Maya Road buttons.

I wrapped a couple of wood thread holders with fancy crochet and scalloped trims and tied them to the bottom with silk ribbon.  I punched right through the wood to tie them to the box.

I wrapped the sides of the box in adhesive lace tape for an extra vintage touch.  I really love this decor piece and it's getting a proper home in my craft room!
