Jess here today bringing you a little bit of love in preparation for Valentine's Day. I have a real appreciation for this holiday and tend to go a little overboard. I think I love the excuse to get super girly and go no-limits on the flowers, glitter, and frills! You can clearly see that demonstrated on these altered Maya Road boxes.
The boxes are old product tins that I thought were too cool to get rid of. They got a nice face lift into a beautiful way to present a gift for someone you love.
You can see I had a bit of a love affair with the flowers! I stacked the boxes off-center so I could allow for all the dimensional elements on their lids.
I tied the boxes together with seam binding and strung several embellishments on the bow. The first is a stack of chipboard pieces: painted and cracked wings, scalloped heart, and a glittered heart. The heart key was such an awesome addition. I really like using antique metal in combination with all the softer textures. And I also added some dangling elements with the tassel and crystals.
The bottom box is larger and perfect for a card or a small present. One of the best features of these particular boxes is the clear window on top. I used that to my advantage and added coordinating paper on the inside so it showed through. I layered lots of flowers on top of a linen album piece, as well as a glittered chipboard pennant and painted heart.
The smaller box is my favorite... it holds a little surprise that you can see peeking through that top window. More flowers (of course!) and a sweet linen pennant adorn the top.
The surprise inside is a sweet little accordion insert. I made mine with my mother in mind, as she never gets tired of pictures of her grandchildren. I scored a length of cardstock and adhered the bottom inside the box and decorated the cover with trims, ephemera, and some small embellishments.
The insert folds out to four panels, each with a photo and/or embellishment. I took care to use mostly flat items here to ensure the insert fit in the box.
I had so much fun going Valentine crazy with this project and hope it inspires you to create something for your loved ones, too!
